ABISOLA SALAWU – Another ‘Doyenne’ Of The Modeling Industry

Like the legend of the amazon goddess, her name and achievements may come out as one you are not familiar with. That said; she’s among the legion of young women in the world of  modeling with accomplishments and records that will guide as inspiration to future hopefuls. Although still young and unfolding but her potentials are limitless.

Words by Sesan Adeniji

” My name is Abisola Salawu also known as Bisochie. I am a fashion/runway model and fitness enthusiast with statistics that reads 5’11, 26, 33 and 37. I emerged as Top 5 ‘Pearl Look’ 2013, Most Photogenic ‘Top Model Nigeria’ 2015, Runner Up ‘Miss Kanekalon Africa’ 2015, Miss Oyo- ‘Miss Nigeria’ 2016, and Model Of The Year ‘Nigeria Achievers Award’ 2017 Nominee, amongst others.

Apart from modeling, I once aspire to be a dancer. I remember coming home from school one time and I told my parents I wanted to become a professional dancer, it felt like a movie that came with a lot of special effects, I couldn’t forget what they said to me. I looked up to the likes of Kaffy, P-Square, Usher, Beyonce, Ciara and Michael Jackson. I felt like a superwoman every time I watched them perform.

I attended University of Ibadan where I got a degree in Geography. I was popular as a dancer and athlete. I was sports minister at my hall of residence, best female dancer and choreographer consecutively. My journey into modeling started from watching Naomi Campbell and Fashion For Relief/The Face, Oluchi and Africa’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks and America’s Next Top Model.

I put in for a couple of modeling competitions and attended castings most of which I was booked. I am happy the Nigerian modeling industry is getting better day-by-day. I intend to give back by establishing a modeling show and providing grooming opportunities for models across Africa and beyond in the nearest future.

My advice to aspiring models is to start however small they think they are, Rome was not built in a day. They would get bigger by working hard and staying positive. And no matter what background they come from, only they can change their story and achieve their goals. It begins with a step forward. I am open to mentoring and happy to provide any necessary information that could help. ”

I met Abisola in Nigeria at the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2014.
First time I saw her she was spreading elegance and pure fashion from the catwalk. I hv immediatelly felt in love for the way she walk like if she is surfing on the clowds. Unique, very professionals, extremely focused on anything she does and simply beautifull. And I said, she is the one. But than I discover her background nd her qualities. I couldn’t resist her.
