ADEKUNLE GOLD IS SIMPLY GOLD

As an entertainment journalist, I have had several mouthwatering moments that have changed my life and continue to fuel my motivation. Everybody has their moment that makes them feel witty, thoughtful, and reflective and also, make them feel like what they want to become. My moments are those times when I look back at several young or upcoming artistes I contributed my bit to their breakthrough.

I remember early 2000 in Festac when I met Platashun boiz to photograph the group for their first professional magazine cover. That moment continues to live with me considering the fact that they all have attained ground breaking success afterwards.

During the last Ghana music awards in April 2015, I flew with Seyi Shay, Yemi Alade and Patoranking all nominees for the best African artiste category, realizing the fact that I gave all of them their first music magazine cover in 2014, filled me with joy. This same feeling is what I have right now as I write this story on Adekunle Gold. This young artiste is simply gold. I bet my career on it that his name will soon be written as one of the best to ever grace this country. If you have been privileged to listen to his latest single ‘Shade’, you will understand where my conviction is coming from. He is a breath of fresh air.

Kosoko Adekunle, a.k.a Adekunle Gold, is no stranger to the Nigerian music industry. He wrote his first song at the age of 15 and started out singing in his early teens as a member of the junior church choir.

Adekunle Gold, who is a graduate of Lagos State Polytechnic with a degree in Graphics, formed a band “The Bridge” with best friend, Seyikeyz, in 2010 and they released four songs “No sleeping on a bicycle”, “Norm Breaker” featuring Skales and “All of me” (John legend cover). In 2013, he Left ‘The Bridge’ to debut as a solo act. Having identified his style of music, he released a song titled “Let it stop”, a song about peace for the nation. In December 2014, he released his version of One Direction’s ‘Story of My Life”, which he titled ‘SADE’. This song enjoyed massive airplay and got him signed to YBNL. His genre of music is Urban Highlife and as an artiste he’s simply gold. Extracted from Mystreetz Magazine( Cynthia Morgan’s edition)
