BE GRATEFUL RADIO HAS SOBA

This is not about throwing shades but listening to some OAPs on some radio
stations these days leaves one feeling empty because of how shallow their
commentaries and analysis are. It just seems most have substituted
acquiring in-depth knowledge about their industry for the mediocrity
associated with some online blogs. They’re so comfortably engulfed in their
fake accents; they care less if they are actually not positively impacting
knowledge to their fan base. In the midst of the conundrum radio

broadcasting currently is right now, among the few that are so professional
doing their job effortlessly is Soba Mac Pepple who plies her trade with
Garden City Radio 89.9 FM (Port Harcourt) as an OAP/Presenter/Voice Over
Artiste. This lady is a joy to listen to.

She fell in love with the media pretty earlier in life. The cartoon section
of the different national dailies and the radio were the only forms of
entertainment her family enjoyed because television at the time was
perceived as ‘sinful’ by her family’s choice of fellowship (religion). She
grew up listening to ace broadcasters, fantasizing that someday she too
would be behind the microphone. One person she truly admired then was the
late Boma Erekosima of Radio Rivers 99.1 FM, Port Harcourt (which was at
the time the only radio station in Rivers State).

She hails from Opobo Town, in Opobo/Nkoro local government area of Rivers
State and studied Mass Communication at Olabisi Onabanjo University
(Nigeria). After the demise of her mother in 2011 which left her
devastated, SOBA began looking for an avenue to let out her pain, although
very shy, withdrawn and an introvert who feared any form of social
interaction, she decided to attend a broadcast school in Port Harcourt,
AIBC (Alpha Institute of Broadcasting and Communications), to sharpen her
skill and gain requisite knowledge needed, and there her passion was born.
In 2012 she started off as an intern with Garden City Radio 89.9 FM and
today she enjoys every bit of the job, learning new things and meeting
amazing people. On Thursdays and Fridays she hosts the drive time show
tagged ‘Traffic Jam.’
Saturdays sees her hosting ‘The Saturday Lounge’ and she caps the week up
with her inspirational Sunday show tagged ‘Staying Grateful With Soba.’

Sobz, is what I call her. She has a full and infectious laughter. Sometimes mischievous, she’s one lady that throws you off with her “thinking without the box” antics.
As a colleague and a friend, she’s all shades of crazy and loyal.
As a professional at the job, she makes me thank God she’s not a “voice miss road” presenter.
Keep doing a good job Sobz.
Thanks my streetz mag for celebrating this Icon.

There can only be one. Beautiful, intelligent, articulate, funny… If I keep going I might just run out of words to describe this trend setting OAP. River State should be grateful there is Soba. Ride on girl.

Nice, this has me wanting to listen to the drive time show. Truly the newer generation presenters aren’t half as real and after reading one book they think they are informed enough to give listeners advise or become life coaches. Stay true Soba!!

She’s MAD! Fun Loving and always laughing and smiling, I sometimes think she never has a bad day, but who doesn’t?

Sobz’ passion for broadcasting is tangible and second to none.
The energy and life in Her voice cannot be bought. She doesn’t just present or anchor programmes, she sweatlessly connects the minds and hearts of listeners and carries everybody along.
Keep going, girl. You will reach the stars.

Sobs is a plus to the media industry. I have been a guest on her show and have also listened in, and I can comfortably say that she always leaves me refreshed. She is very intelligent and sets the trend for other OAPs to follow.
Kudos to you, Soba. Keep thriving.

We are so grateful to have Soba. Her voice is soothing and very interesting to listen to. She speaks directly to you, that’s one of the many reasons I love listening to her. She keeps it real all the time. Big ups!

Soba is a force to reckon with. First time I met her, I was blown away by her intelligence and ability to keep you engaged in a meaningful conversation. No! She’s not your regular voice on the radio. She’s a #radioweirdo and I admire her so much. The world will hear of you girl. Nothing can stop you.
