GUCCI’S BREAKFAST SHOW ON KU 92.7FM IS THE PERFECT BLUEPRINT FOR MORNING PROGRAMME
‘The Job of a broadcaster is quite intriguing, fun and complex but most importantly understanding that one is guided by certain rules and regulations that sometimes supersede your principles as an individual” – Gucci The Radio Rockstar
The conundrum with radio broadcasting these days is the fact that most radio stations seems to have lost the plot with regards to drafting the perfect content for each programme and also, failed in finding the competent individuals to anchor those shows. With most radio houses substituting creative knowledgeable talents for returnees with fake British/American accent and wannabes; all that is left coming out of radio box are empty rhetoric and uncoordinated playlist. But despite the void visible in most of the mainstream stations in big cities, you just need move to neighbouring states like Benin city to be stun by the level of professionalism from some of the resident OAPs. They are currently the most in-demand by established radio stations.
One of the most entertaining and engaging OAP in Benin City right now is Augustus Aigbe, popularly called Gucci. His weekdays breakfast programme Mondays to Fridays. (5:30am – 11:00am) on KU FM is the perfect blueprint for morning show. The content is well scripted and his presentation is delightful. This lad is a bunch of talents. “Radio is my comfort zone, the place where everything about me feels perfectly right. I step into the studio, and all things just come alive. Its serious business, Moving that MIC up and the headset on puts me in a different zone, I am like a pilot and the only way to get my passengers to their destination is by giving factual information and nonstop entertainment. My playlist is awesome and my commentaries are balance and fun’ – Gucci a.k.a The radio Rockstar
“I got my chance at doing what I love “radio” in my fourth year at the University preparing to go on a 6 month Industrial Training in the forthcoming academic year. There was an ad on radio about an audition for young promising talents to be groomed on radio at Silverbird Benin. December 2012, I scurried off to the audition venue to try out for a chance on radio, in a crowd of about 500, 23 of us made the cut and my journey as an OAP began. I made my first professional debut as a radio presenter on a Saturday February 2013 on a program called Sportacular. The late Cleopatara Tao as well as my friend and senior colleague Chinonso Dike pretty much moulded my foundation in the profession and it was no surprise when they both left the station I knew the training wheels were off and I had to improve my craft and learn more. So after four dedicated years with Silverbird, when KUFM Nigeria came calling with a mouth-watering offer, I moved and joined forces with the best station in South South Nigeria. I officially resumed duties on June 13th 2016, and over 2 years down the line it has been an eventful ride. I am currently the Head of programs at the station. The Job of a broadcaster is quite intriguing, fun and complex but most importantly understanding that one is guided by certain rules and regulations that sometimes supersede your principles as an individual”- he concluded
