IS EDEGBE MERCY EN ROUTE TO RUNWAY IN MILAN?
‘….I am fascinated with modelling. I am a fashion and beauty model.

It’s becoming more like a ritual for me these days to constantly put the
spotlight on a new talent I am introduced to on social media by some of my
creative friends in that sphere. Every now and then, they call my attention
by sharing the content of some hard working person they want me to do an
editorial on to support their dream. For me, it’s one of the most
interesting aspects of my job. That feeling of making someone thoughtful,
witty and making them feel like what they want to become in life is
For this edition, about three different people coincidentally tagged me on
this model’s image. They DMed to say they believe she’s got the quality
that could make her someday walk the runway during the Milan fashion show.
Who says dreams don’t come true? It will be hard to dispute that in a world
that has produced unbelievable stories from celebrated models like Oluchi.
Who knows if this article will complete some part of that puzzle that will
take Edegbe Mercy Osatohanmwen one step closer towards achieving her goal
as one of the top models in Nigeria?
‘I am fascinated with modelling. I am a fashion and beauty model.
I‘m 5 feet 9 inches tall with a statistics of 32, 28, 37; I hail from Benin
City, Edo state, born into a family of one, a student of the University of
Benin, studying International Studies and Diplomacy. Growing up, the
thought of being a model never crossed my mind but somewhere in the year
2016, I got bitten by the modelling bug and I don’t want to recover from
that modelling fever. That same year, I participated in the Pearl Look
beauty contest but I didn’t make it to the house. I also took part in the
face of Ginx fashion where I came out as a runner up.
‘I am inspired by makeup and photography and I think that made me decide
the type of modelling I’d go into. From 2016 till now, the journey has been
creative, diverse and promising. I wouldn’t say it has been easy and rosy,
there have definitely been some setbacks, difficulties and criticisms from
friends and few of my family members but I understand such things come with
the territory. All I need to do is prove them wrong. It’s not a
prostitute’s profession but a modelling profession. I did my first runway
show at the Art African festival. Runway was amazing; there is actually no
better feeling than being on the stage and seeing people cheering for you.
I’m a part of Faschun Jinkz and I was also a part of Gemains modelling
academy in my school for a while, and the short time I got to spend with
them was educative and totally amazing. I have modelled for some major
brands and top photographers here in school. I am constantly working hard,
gathering knowledge for the great modelling conquest ahead. Maybe, I will
walk the runway at London and Milan fashion show someday. I got my eyes on
it. I will also love to veer into acting; Broadway may also be calling.
New York, I am all yours. Dreams come true!’ – Edegbe Mercy.
