MR.EAZI – SLOWLY AND EAZILY GETTING TO THE TOP

In the midst of life’s plenty trials and travails, it is very easy to get bogged down under the weight of all your problems. But there is another way around this. How about simply being happy, worry less, and take each day as it comes, warts and all? Life is eazi, and no one is a pioneer of this phrase more than fast rising act, Mr. Eazi himself. Everything about him, from his demeanour, to his songs which are soothing to the ears, depicts a man who literally takes things eazi. Since his debut in 2013 with his first album ‘About to Blow’ till this very moment, Mr. Eazi has accomplished more than what some artistes accomplish within the course of their entire careers. But how has he been able to do this? What sorcery did he employ to turn all of us into unwitting fans? I’ll sum it up to one word and one word only – ORIGINALITY. Bucketloads of it!

Beneath his calm disposition, Mr. Eazi is a raging storm bursting at the seams with original sounds. Perhaps this is what Starboy Wizkid saw in him before signing the versatile singer. His songs are what I call easy listens – you press play and it feels like something is tickling your eardrums and lulling you into a welcome state of relaxation. His jams are catchy and so eazily relatable with themes bordering on love, lust, desire, heartbreak, and other similar subjects that strike a chord and resonate deeply with young people and the young at heart. Like a virus, his sound is penetrating various markets, going beyond the shores of Nigeria to Africa and the rest of the world. Interestingly, the Nigerian singer is one of the few artistes enjoying the best of both worlds as he shuttles between Nigeria and Ghana frequently, and has made himself at home quite nicely in the UK as well. Believe me, it’s not eazi being caught in the middle of the never-ending Nigeria-Ghana rivalry, but Mr. Eazi handles it well, barring one or two slip-ups.

In the course of writing this piece, I also realized that I have every single one of his songs on my playlist. Every. Single. One. How and when did he creep up on me with his infectious sound? How do I find myself bobbing my big head to his music once it comes on? EAZILY. That’s the only answer to the question. Is it ‘Leg Over?’ Is it ‘Skin Tight?’ Is it ‘In The Morning?’ Is it ‘Business?’ I can’t even pick a favorite. That would be sacrilegious. But one thing is certain: Mr. Eazi is a classic example of what happens when hard work meets talent. Unstoppable is the word! Consequently, I strongly believe that we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the revelation that is Mr. Eazi, ceteris paribus. The world is ripe for the taking right now.

Mr Eazi is easily one of my favourite artistes right now and when I consider
how infectious his sound is, he’ll probably be a favourite for a long time.
What I really like about him though is how seriously he takes the marketing
of his music. I think he’s got this music-marketing thing down to a tee. He
sold out his first Nigerian concert and won big at The Headies and the
Soundcity MVP Awards all before releasing his Accra to Lagos mixtape. He
brilliantly uses social media and conventional means like billboards and
bus adverts to push his music and endear him to new fans. You can tell him
and his team leave nothing to chance in terms of promotion. I’d like more
artistes to be as involved in pushing their music as he is.
Oh and nice snag with Temi Otedola too!
