It’s becoming obvious that outside the music industry, modeling is one of the most attractive sectors for most Nigerian youth. There’s a boom in the style and fashion industry, if this trajectory continues, the needs for models will increase. The sooner the modeling industry is regulated, the faster it will attain the status of a big money sector. One of the models putting in the shift and gearing up for the great years ahead is Pelumi Emioladipupo. At age 19, this Mass Communication student of the Polytechnic of Ibadan is on track to achieve her goals.

“My elder sister almost became my role model.  She entered the modeling industry before it caught my interest. I ventured into the sector immediately after secondary school that was 2015. I had series of shoot with my friend who was also an upcoming Photographer as at that time.

But somehow, I figured that people like to use models and not pay them and that
was a setback, it can be very frustrating to put your effort into something
and not get paid. I almost stopped modeling because my father wasn’t so
in support but my mum and sister advice I keep on. They told me every great thing had small beginning

I knew I wasn’t wasting my time because I find modeling fun and interesting
but I needed more than fun so I tried runway modeling early this year and
it was quite challenging. My walk was terrible at first before I fell in
love with it, I’m still a work in progress though, the walk and the attitude
are amazing, and the styles are unique and beautiful. Runway is a nice upgrade for Nigeria .The fashion industry is not failing at all. I’ll also love to go into acting. I will do well getting into different characters” – Pelumi
