The Drake phenomenon continues with his album at Number One for Fifth Straight Week
Is anything-significant happening in the music industry this year outside the #Drakesanity? I guess not. Kenny Chesney is no match for the 6ix God. Drake’s Scorpion will once again be the top spot on the Billboard 200, holding off the Songs for the Saints album from the country legend. This will be Drake’s fifth week at number one.
Songs for the Saints is expected to land at 65,000 albums in the first week, while Drake’s fifth is going to reel in 150,000 units.
The last album to hold down the top spot for that long came from Drake’s Canada friend The Weeknd, who did so with his Starboy album. However, Abel did not do it in consecutive weeks.
The run for Drake will have some stiff competition from other Hip-Hop artists as YG, Mac Miller and Travis Scott are all ready to release an album this coming Friday. If he manages to outlast all three of those heavyweights, his good friend Nicki Minaj is lingering a couple of weeks away with her Queen album that will surely receive strong support from the Barbz.
With that heat coming down on Drake in the form of a few albums, it still isn’t wise to count him out. 150,000 streaming equivelent units in his fifth week is a huge number and with the “In My Feelings” video dropping, the run may be long from over.
