Despite having one foot in Lagos and the other in the United Kingdom,
Yewande Abiodun a.k.a Tipsy is regarded by industry hip-hop faithfuls as
one of the thoroughbreds in the rap circle. Her cult followership is ride
or die. She’s been in the industry for a long time and she’s here for the
long haul. The industry is tough to breakthrough, her talent is tough to
ignore. Her game is real and she’s among the best kept secrets to blow in
the Nigerian music circle. This femcee has been grinding since 2011 after
signing as an artiste under JJC Big Boyz Entertainment. She’s out with a
new single in 2017. It’s time to have about that.

The new single ‘Hustle’

The new single ‘Hustle’ has an original and a remix with Olamide. It’s a
feel good sort of motivational joint. The song is to inspire and motivate
people never to give up even in the face of hardship and despair because
the sun will shine again.

Starting out

I don’t have the orthodox story. Music didn’t start for me as singing in
church or being discovered in a talent hunt. I was just that girl who loved
to dance and somehow got noticed by few people. Out of the few, JJC Skillz
noticed me, signed me, brushed up my skills and pushed me into my
expression as an artiste. It was magical for me suddenly discovering you
could do something so well you never even imagined you were good at.

Cult hero

One artiste I often listen to is the great and late Dagrin. I absolutely loved
and love him. There’s a certain vibe to his songs. You can almost put yourself
in his shoes of how he hustled every day; that helped shape me and added a
quota to the brand I wanted to be.

Works statistic

I have put out a couple of works. Here’s a list of other joint apart from
the latest ‘Hustle.’

‘Chingchong’
‘Se’Ngbomi’ (Bigboyz all stars)
“Emi naa ni”
‘Sole’ ft Olamide
‘O Wunmi’

The journey thus far

I have had some rough times in life where I almost gave up on the industry
but somehow I defied those odds. I am back. Music is a continuous process
of growth and expression. Somewhere in those days where thick dark clouds
of despair tried to engulf me, I somehow found reassurance and hope; I
realize how useless I would literally be without music. I am working hard
constantly to be a better artiste, put in more effort. There are greats
days ahead. All one needs is patience, dedication, hard work and prayers.
