Watch Nicki Minaj Explain Why She Called Out Travis Scott On ‘Ellen’
“I felt like I wanted to punch him in his fu**ing face,” she said. “It’s not anger, it’s just what’s right and what’s wrong, what’s fair. I have had a number two album and I never cared. It’s just that when you have a number two album to someone who is selling shirts and merch and selling passes for a tour that’s not even announced yet, it feels like you’re being tricked. It feels like someone is playing a game and beating you at a game as opposed to just selling music. I want to sell music.”
While Minaj added that she lost out on 12 hours of potential album sales since Queen “was a secret album,” she wants spectators and fans to know she’s appreciative for the project’s charting reception.
“I love being grateful and remembering that things could be worse. I started from nothing…I get it,” she said. “But I don’t like being bullied, and I don’t like being taken advantage of and sometimes people use scare tactics against you, especially as a black woman that people will call you angry or bitter and now it’s almost like we’re not allowed to defend ourselves or stand up for ourselves and I’m not going to have that.”
In mid-August, Minaj shared her unabashed thoughts on the album’s predicament, writing, “I put my blood sweat & tears in writing a dope album only for Travis Scott to have Kylie Jenner post a tour pass telling ppl to come see her & Stormi.” The 35-year-old rapper then said that Queen “broke the record of being number 1 in 86 countries.”
