ZORO FROM ZERO TO HERO

I never thought I’d be here today. I never took the whole rap thing seriously I just did it just for fun; for my home boys and the girls them” – Zoro

It will be an act of ignorance for anyone not to take Zoro seriously in this music industry. For him to claim a spot at MTV hottest 20 songs of 2016 with the hit single “Ogene” featuring Flavour is a big deal. The success story of Phyno should be a wake up call to anyone trying to look away from him because of the predominant Igbo influence in his music. With various brands balancing budgets by activating events in the east because of the numbers, I have seen Zoro benefiting from this. Zoro is smiling to the bank and gradually moving from zero to hero. This home boy is talented and also commands a huge cult followership. For him, music is just fun and for love.

“I never thought I’d be here today. I never took the whole rap thing seriously I just did it just for fun; for my home boys and the girls them, until I had one of my home boys feature me on a song which was the first time I entered a studio booth and at the age of 18. Couple of months later I got a call from Wizboy to get on his song OWUSAGI which turned into a massive hit, and then I prayed to God to guide my path so I don’t get on the wrong lane. Then the song ENYI, 042 on and on until the smash hit OGENE, and we gon’ be here for a very very long time lol.” – Zoro smiled as he narrated this side of his story to me.

What have you done musically and learnt in the past years?

I’ve not really done a lot I think because the journey ahead is a long one and we just getting started. Over the years I’ve learnt to spend less time on my strength and more time on my weakness, plus I ain’t scared of no rapper anywhere, anytime! I’ve been doing music over time, and it’s really been a tough one, but thank God we are here today. My plans for 2017?  First off, I thank God for life and everyone who’s been supporting my music. I love you all. I learnt a lot last year, I tried putting some materials out there to get the sound people really needed to listen to, had lots of challenges too. I dropped a couple of smash hits and ones that I had to sing. So, this year I’m gon’ be switching lanes like giving my people what they want, basically putting the Igbo culture on the map. I’m also gon’ be doing a lot songs for my beautiful girls out there. It’s gon’ be a great year, something different from the usual. Trust me I’ve got a lot for my people.
