21 Savage’s Visa Application Allegedly Led To His Arrest
According to reports, 21 Savage’’s application for a U-Visa may have triggered his recent arrest by ICE.
The site reports that ICE knew about the I Am > I Was MC’s status when he applied for his U-Visa in 2017, however, there hadn’t been any interaction with 21 until this past Sunday, when he was taken into custody after the car he was in was pulled over.
“21 Savage’s move to become a legal resident may have caused the arrest, because USCIS investigates the application and does a background check, which apparently revealed he was born in the UK, came to the U.S. legally in 2005 with a visa, but it expired the next year and he has been here illegally ever since,” TMZ writes.
According to initial reports about the rapper’s arrest, he came to Atlanta from London with his mother in 2005 after his parents separated. His visa expired a year later. Earlier speculation led many people to believe he was actually from Dominica, a former British colony, however, his birth certificate was released yesterday (Feb. 4), proving that he was born in East London in 1992.
21’s sister Jayda wrote on Twitter that she thinks her brother should be able to stay in America since he’s been here for so long.
