Adekunle Gold’s “Young Love” Is A Testament To His Genius As A Songwriter
On this side of the world, when a piece of music comes on and its rhythm joyfully overwhelms the soul, most often, the performing musician solely gets all the praises. Most times, hardly do the songwriting brilliance spotlighted. But listening to Adekunle Gold’s ‘Young Love’, the vocals are incredible but most importantly, I duff my hat, his songwriting is impeccable. The tune is so good, if you change Adekunle’s name to Drake and it’s released by one of the multinational record companies, this song will receive multiple Grammy nominations. That’s a testament to his genius as a songwriter.

‘Young Love’ is co-written by Adekunle Gold and Moelogo. Analyzing the constructive clever melody progression, the good payoff line that formed a perfect hook and the groovy flawless cadence is heartwarming. The use of the everyday pick up lines contributed to a lovely modulation. Listening to the song countless times, I could hear a Khalid, Lewis Capaldi or Drake on it. This is a crossover tune. When asked about the song, Adekunle Gold replied, “I just wanted to have a song filled with pick up lines for boys and girls.”
If the Nigerian music industry needs to fulfill its full potential as a sector where every piece of craftmanship is rewarded, then it’s time we openly begin to celebrate songwriters. Shout out to Davido, through his honesty, we knew Wurld co-wrote “Blow My Mind” featuring Chris Brown. He also made mentioned that Adekunle Gold wrote one of his soon to be released songs. Other artists should swallow their pride and give credit when needed.
