Barbie has shattered records with its opening weekend gross. The movie, which opened on July 21, directed by three-time Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig, the opening weekend sits at $155 million domestically and $182 internationally for a total of $337 million worldwide. With this, Barbie earns itself the title of best opening weekend of 2023, beating The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s opening haul of $146.3 million domestically. Barbie has also broken a myriad of records, including the highest opening weekend for a movie that isn’t a sequel, a remake, or a superhero movie.
