D’PRINCE Delivered More Than He’s Respected For
In retrospect, looking back at all the hit songs he churned out and his influence on collaborative projects in comparison to some of the celebrated artists in the industry today, D’Prince delivered more than he’s respected in the Nigerian music industry
Words by Sesan Adeniji
With grit, he created a space for himself to be heard in the midst of several talented artists like D’banj, Wande Coal, SID and Tiwa Savage of the Mo’Hits and Mavin Records respectively. His verse stood out in Samklef’s ‘Noni’ while his songs in Mavin’s Solar Plexus all-stars album receives arguably the highest applauds by fans across the board.
With hit singles like ‘Take Banana’, ‘Omo Oba’, ‘Jozin World’, Goody Bag off the debut album titled Frenzy, he exhibited creativeness and survived against all odds to become a music brand in Nigeria. While his critics couldn’t get off his back alluding claims to the Don Jazzy effect, D’Prince rise to stardom was an indication that his body of work was no fluke but a representation of hard work and persistence. Take it or leave it, D’Prince knew his selling point and he did #make it count.
Without getting into much details, outside the success of his recent singles like ‘Gucci Gang‘, I heard he’s working on a major release and a massive collaboration to be announced soon. This unveil by D’Prince will shape the narrative in the Nigerian music industry not just for artists and for the music business.
