Ever since I was a little girl I developed a love for cakes and makeup. I would always want to wear makeup to whatever occasion I attended. After my SSCE examinations, while waiting for admission I decided to learn either cake baking or makeup’ – Omosigho Victory

In this profession, there’s nothing as intriguing to me as following a story wherever it takes me. Sometimes the story is about a unique student doing a great job in a small but significant way that is providing results and satisfaction for the legion of students and other customers around her vicinity. This is the story of the 19-year-old Omosigho Victory Osawenyewen, a 200 level student of the department of Vocational Technical Education studying Accounting Education in the Great University of Benin. She specializes in beauty makeup and also doubles as a baker, unique in cake making. She doesn’t just provide services that make one look beautiful; she does also satisfy your craving for confectionaries in a wide range of cakes. This native of Oredo local government area of Edo State, is the C.E.O of Ruby’s Empire.

‘Ever since I was a little girl I developed a love for cakes and makeup. I would always want to wear makeup to whatever occasion I attended. After my SSCE examinations, while waiting for admission I decided to learn either cake baking or makeup but couldn’t finish it up because I had to go for my
clearance in UNIBEN. I learnt how to do makeup after my matriculation ceremony. I gathered the money I was given to pay for the makeup class and buy my necessary materials. I finished learning two months later but didn’t know how to go about it to make it successful since makeup artistry is a popular business in the country. I carried out extensive research in all things makeup artists rarely do but are part of makeup so as to make my own special. I practiced using faces of my friends and siblings. I engaged in several events that have to do with makeup e. g makeup festival 1.0 which I was opportuned to be their Brand Ambassador. During that event I got to meet CEOs of large makeup firms like Beauty Matters by Osamu, Looks by Leo by Mrs Louisa, and House of Tara representative, Happy Eboka. It was an amazing experience.

IMG_20170627_191239_608‘While I was building my makeup career I decided to carry cake baking along. I started by watching several videos on YouTube and downloading recipes from Nigeria food TV Online. I followed the recipe and made trial cakes that I served to my lodge mates and friends for feedback. This continued for a while until a special friend of mine got me a form to attend the skill acquisition program organised by the recently passed SUG VP. It was a wonderful experience. I learnt new tricks and new recipes. Ever since then I have been making cakes for birthdays and other events. My parents and siblings made sure they gave me the support I needed. Though sometimes they will ask me to calm down and face my education but they never stopped encouraging me to be better. That alone plus my passion kept me going. The name Ruby means a precious stone and the term Empire means a large business.  I chose Ruby’s Empire because I don’t seemy firm ending small as I intend on my own brand products, which will go global. Ruby’s Empire is not just a fiction but also an organization that never ceases to bring smiles to faces of people.’ – Omosigho Victoria Osawenyewen.
