One thing life has taught me especially about the female folks, it is to never join the crowd that chooses to judge females by their cover without understanding their dreams, aspirations and hustle. The world celebrates and jumps on all news from women of influence from various works of life like Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna, the Kardashians and Ellen DeGeneres but I guess a lot would have judged them wrongly or criticized them in their early days of hustle. In my journey as a journalist, I keep coming in contact with young ladies who have continued working tirelessly to earn a living with what makes them a happier person in life. Makuriya Camara is one hard working professional Dancer & Choreographer whose story and drive to be successful is impressive. This eighteen year old who also doubles as a model and video vixen has her eyes on major goals in the entertainment industry. I recently exchanged mails with her to understand her story:
‘my family inspired me to dance as everyone in my family likes to dance especially my sisters. We used to play music every time we cleaned the house and make up dance routines together. My mum also used to dance with us,
she is so much fun. I told her one day I’ll be dancing on stage and in music videos and I made that happen within two years after moving to the UK and that’s when I decided to take dancing serious and started to build my future career with it. However with modeling, no one inspired me to do it. I was told to try it by a gym member that has been a great friend ever since. This young man in the gym approached me asking me if I was a model and my response was “Who? Me? No way!” He was surprised I said no, he then adviced me to give it a go because he sees a lot of potential in me. Ever since then I’ve done fashion shows and photo shoots and I love it. I’m also a personal trainer; in a couple of years I’m aspiring to become a physiotherapist. I’m building my brand, which says a lot about me. GFWC (Get fit with Cory) is a fusion of dance and fitness. Get fit with Cory – it’s that time.”

Rounding up, she told me about her childhood, growing up and the kind of person she is. “There was a family holiday where my parents and siblings were going back to Sierra Leone for a couple of months, at that time I was in my mother’s womb. During those holidays I was born and months after we went back to Spain where I and majority of my family grew up. After living in Spain for 14 years, I joined my sisters who were already living in London, Uk. Growing up was never easy but I never gave up on myself. I’m a disciplined and motivated young girl who has always had initiatives of my own. I’m someone that believes in second chances and forgiving others. I love sports, fitness, dance, languages, countries, culture and traveling. I have participated in some fashion shows like, La marche fashion show, Nigerian Independence fashion show, Karren messam cosmetics fashion show, LemraTheCollection fashion show, TheAfroRunway, Ghana Party in park fashion show and Focus Red Ball fashion show to mention a few” – She ended.
