LA EMITS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC
‘..For me, music started right when I could talk,
I used to try to sing along with everything on TV and radio and act like I
was really performing..’- LA
She’s a vocal powerhouse, so it’s hard to understand how the judges at
X-Factor and Nigerian idol failed to see through her talent
when she participated at these events at various times in her life.
My first contact with LA was memorable; hearing her sing was beautiful
confusion. It was like a world of lovely melodies and vibes from all of my
favorite soul and R&B singers of all time. I stumbled onto her Instagram
page (@goodgirlla) and I was mesmerized. Listening to the various musical
clips she posted is like being lost in one’s favorite musical movie. She
had soul, R&B and pop all mashed up in her vocal cords. When she sings, I
can feel the passion of a Mary J blige and the soul of Whitney combined
with Christina Aguilera. There’s just something so unique about her; she’s
made for the big stage.
‘LA formally known as Ekumah Euphemia Runyi.
I am an Afro-fusion artiste. For me, music started right when I could talk,
I used to try to sing along with everything on TV and radio and act like I
was really performing. The main push really came when my dad bought me
Britney Spears’ 2000 Crazy 2K tour Hawaii, I learnt the chorus and started
trying to write my own songs and performed at valedictory service in school’
You use social media a lot to push your awareness. When did it all start?
Well yes social media is one of the most powerful promotion tools
these days; I first started doing cover videos in my dad’s sitting room.
The first cover I posted on Instagram was Alicia keys’ ‘No One.’ I recorded
it with my mobile phone then graduated to using Acapella and Smule apps and
now I’m doing covers with Free me TV and shooting the videos. Soon I’ll be
doing my own songs internationally.
Professionally, let’s talk about all you have done?
First I performed in valedictory services as a kid so that’s one (lol) then
I was on the first X-Factor. I went in with a group, got to top 6 groups
but it didn’t work out; then I did Nigerian idol didn’t also workout. I had
to face school for a bit then I started doing shows and features, the way
it’s going I might be the most featured artiste soon, everyone that hears
me wants to do a song ASAP and I’m grateful for it.
Let’s us talk performance!
I haven’t been much of a performer in my career. I’m working on doing more
shows but I’ve done a few Telecom company shows, Music Unplugged, Carpe
Diem, Open Mics, private shows and some more.
What’s next for your brand?
Next up is work work work. It never stops. I just want to keep going
and keep finding myself, getting better and carving my niche. The other
stuff coming up is private for now when the time is right I will be glad to
share it with everyone; in the meantime expect more covers from me. One
cover going up on YouTube every week (search Covers by GoodgirlLA
on YouTube), check out my music ‘Don’t Mind,’ ’Jofunmi,’ available on all
platforms.
