Layzee Ella’s “When The Lights Go Off” EP Will Blow Your Mind

Without a doubt, Layzee Ella is one of the few new generations of Nigerian artistes that could sing and rap on a song with perfectly interwoven lyrics and melody. To be as young as she is and still pack a punch in creative depth and intelligence likened to Grammy Award-winning Drake is a testament to how fantastic she is becoming. Her debut EP titled “When The Lights Go Off” will blow your mind.

Layzee’s six-track body of work is a mash-up of Pop and Trap with an undertone of Reggae. Listening to the song “Body On Me” has the trappings of a Billboard Top 100. It’s so addictive – it will be on a replay all day. The track “Deep Into You” is an engaging feel-good song. “Somebody” has the bounce of dance music. “WTLGO” is a lovely interlude that increases the hunger for the tracks in the EP. “Stay With Me”, “Issues”, and “Deep Into You” are three of the well-written songs I have listened to in 2021.

Real name Bagudu Emmanuella, she is a native of Akoko-Edo in Edo State. According to her, “Growing up, I had an elder brother who had a very keen interest in music. That rubbed off on me very early. Although he tried his best to teach me how to hit the right notes and all, I never seemed to get it right; but one thing was that I knew how to write a song fast. I had no producer when growing up, yet I could write fantastic songs to no instrumental in 30 minutes. I grew into it even though I never took music seriously. A female rapper in Nigeria from Benin City! It did not seem like it could work out. Now it has”.

“The content of the EP is very sexual. From track one to six, I talked about the same thing – sex, in different genres, languages, and vibes. I hope my audience can see how much I have grown in this project; especially everyone that has been with me since 2018.” She added.
