MANOLOSPANKY – CONNOTATION OF HYPEMAN

For me, if 2018 will be remembered for anything significant, it’s the year where the Hypeman industry became a sector to be reckoned with in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Hypeman as a profession is no tagged as add-ons; it’s now one of the most integral parts of the showbiz industry. The several years when the likes of Patrick Osewingie Osagie a.k.a  Manolospanky put in the shift is now adding up. When you watch this guy anchor a show, I wager that you will immediately come to the realization he’s the synonym to the word Hypeman.

Born in Lagos, Manolospanky’s chase for a career as a hypeman was inspired by the energy and creativity of the likes of Ben Foster. Within the year 2008 and early 2009, at G12 Bar, Oniru, Lagos, he got his first opportunity to hold a microphone. Heading out to Benson Idahosa University to study in 2009, on getting to Benin City, he realized the void in hyping in that entertainment scene. With a keen alacrity, he took the challenge and went on a roller coaster hypeman ride. 

From Lynx Night Club to Indigo Night club and several more clubs, he made a name for himself; so much so that he started getting jobs in Lagos. With a career on the rise, it was a match made in heaven when the iconic event promoter Matthew Ohio made him the hypeman for Industry Nite. That became a turning point in his career despite hyping for artistes like Naeto C, Sauce Kid and Rayce years before.

As a top dog in the hypeman industry, there are several factors working for Monolospanky. No one can debate how unique his brand is perceived from the outside; this lad’s dress sense ignites parties before he hypes a word. His persona is so pop-centric, so intoxicating, he makes his audience go high. As of today, alongside heavyweights like Do2dtun and Shody The Turn Up King, he’s arguably the most listed hypeman in the industry. 

If I am not mistaken, he could even be the most sought after right about now. Don’t believe my hype until you watch him go bonkers doing his hypeman thing on stage; then, I’m sure you will come to the conclusion that he’s the hype in the hypeman industry. Manolospanky is not just the life of the party; he’s the reason why a party will be tagged ‘the #badass party’.
