MARTYN CHIKA EXHIBITS LYRICAL PROWESS IN NEW EP ‘PAPER PLANES’
If there was ever a hip-hop project that symbolizes how some Nigerian rappers are still true to the game of lyricism, Martyn Chika‘s latest EP titled ‘Paper Planes‘ is a perfect example. This 6-track EP contains songs with hard-hitting punchlines and epic storytelling.
When asked about the EP, he replied, “The EP is an excerpt from the main project, which is a trilogy of 21 songs. Since the beginning of my professional career, I have put out three EPs that didn’t get far because it was not well promoted. And those songs became inaccessible because I had to take them down following a rift with my former distribution company.
But I believe those old ideas are still amazing and relevant and I wanted to share them again with the world. So I took those songs and recreated them. The trilogy is a restoration of my catalog. The EP is called ‘Paper Planes’ because it represents dreams that I had when I was younger, and it’s about taking those pages of lyrics I wrote then and letting them fly.
The three parts are named after my former projects titled ‘While You Sleep, Ready Or Not, and Google Drive Of A Genius. The EP is a compilation of singles from those projects – it gives listeners a taste of what is to come and to build anticipation for the rest of it. The tracks in it are, Show Me Something, Konichiwa, No Light Off, What I Like, From Lagos With Love, and Can’t Get No Sleep” – Martyn Chika
Dubbed the ‘Lyrical Lion’, this 25-year old Lagos-born rapper shows off his lyrical prowess and musicality in this EP as he tells the story of his life and his experiences.
