NIGERIAN FEMALE ARTISTS CONUNDRUM– NO LOVE LOST
Come to think of it, how come no top Nigerian female musician has ever put forward a protégé just the way the male colleagues do? Why is it also hard for the likes of Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade to be on a song together? Is it wrong if both including Seyi Shay do feature other talented unknown female artists? The level of carryover resentment from these songsters is alarming. Until we find a solution to this debacle, the ongoing spiral abnormality will continue.
If we begin by zeroing in on all the isolated brouhaha within Nigerian female artists, maybe we will find the deep-rooted problem responsible for why we continue to record a limited number of A-list female musicians each year. In an industry filled with a trailer load of female prospects across several genres, it’s worrisome watching most of them not fulfilling their potentials.
As a journalist that has brainstormed with brands during several activation processes regarding enlisting artists for shows, I will be honest with you, the subjective notion that female performers don’t get a fair share of inclusion does no longer hold water. The level of carry-over grudges by these songstresses for each other is reducing their numbers to compete for opportunities.
In comparison with their male counterparts, the lack of corporation and collaboration within female artists is unarguably the sole reason behind the reduced numbers of functioning B-list artists that could transition into A list. With less than four female listed as top earners each year, the probability for more inclusiveness in regards to performances or endorsement is minimal.
Considering the fact that they are several brands in need of female celebs to reach their target audience, it’s ridiculous that lesser numbers of female music entertainers are churned out each year to take advantage of such game-changing avenues, which is now dished out to actors, fashionistas, satirists, comedians and other social media influencers across the entertainment orbit. DJ Jimmy jatts was the last person that successfully brought top females together on a song – # 2008 ‘Too Much” remix.
