PHOTOGRAPHY AND GRAPHICS FROM THE EYES OF OSBALT

When it comes to generating creatives for new singles or album covers,
presently, he’s the only go-to guy by most of the trending Nigerian
artistes. He’s not just sought out as a distinguished graphics artiste but
also as one of the most interesting photographers around with eyes for
details. The artistic works of Abobade ‘Osbalt’ Oluwatobiloba speak
volumes. An alumna of the University of Ilorin, he studied Geography and
Environmental Management. Within the time he’s been around the industry,
his clientele is presently mindboggling. Only a few in the photography
circle have successfully doubled as a graphic artiste and have worked with
the numero-uno in the Nigerian music industry. Checkout @osbaltgrafix and

brother is.
‘Graphic Design started for me at a very early stage. About the age of 5, I
was introduced to the computer and comic books. I loved drawing and I think
that had a major input in my decision to pursue Graphics. I spent most of
my internet time viewing artworks online, which I found quite
fascinating. So by the age of 10, I was fully convinced as I
started practicing Microsoft Paint and PowerPoint with the aid of my
brother. I got familiar with the slide and path animation, and then further
went into Corel Draw by 2008 to widen my horizon. My development in
Graphics stalled for a while as I stumbled upon Web Development which I
later discovered wasn’t my strong forte. So, I found my way back to Graphics Designing and got exposed to other interface by 2010. Photography also came to me
naturally as a result of its relativity to Graphics Designing. I needed
pictures with good resolution to complete artworks for my clients, so I
thought to myself “Why not take the pictures yourself?” In upshot, Graphics
designing and Photography has always been a part of me. There was no school
needed to develop it. It was just time, hard work and dedication.’ –

In terms of photography, what differentiates your work from your other
colleagues?
Well, I really wouldn’t say there is anything in particular. Being the best
is what I strive for. And this can only be achieved by the grace of God,
hard work and commitment. Oh, lest I forget, those who appreciate and
encouraged me to do more are also included.
Let’s talk about some of the song covers you have designed
Well, trending songs like ‘Penalty’ by Small Doctor, Niniola’s ‘Maradona,’
DJ Tunez x Sarz ‘Get Up,’ Dremo’s first hit single ‘Fela,’ Reminisce ft
Wale ‘Asalamaleikun,’ just to mention a few.
What are your candid views on the photography industry today and what are
your aspirations?
Photography has become a part of our lifestyle here in Nigeria. And with
the technological advancements, the art of capturing photos keep changing
and growing. The digital era has improved photography, making it not only
profitable, but also a profession with good reputation. I aspire to be the
best among the best and be a role model to the young minds that want to
consider photography as a career.
Who are the categories of people you love to shoot most?
Categories of people I love to shoot most? Well, that’s quite cumbersome to answer. I love photography and there’s no particular category, although I enjoy
working with people who have a good attitude, understanding and patience.
Because having to understand clients and meet their demands within a
limited time can be quite tasking.
