I will remember the Nigerian music industry in 2016 for some of the man-made debacles that created the most frenzy. It was a year of public emotional meltdown that validates the old saying that the rich also cry. In the same environment, we witnessed the glory, the fall and the wise ones. For me, the story started like this: In the industry, a young lady hawking bread on the street took one step extra and walked into the click of a camera that changed her life forever. Whether she got all that was promised to her or not, the trajectory of her career was transformed. In that same industry, one of the so-called rich & famous reportedly attempted jumping off the Ikoyi Bridge to commit suicide. He could not manage and take responsibility for all his actions anymore. The wife said, ‘He’s living the life of the Joneses; he could afford to do with a barber three time in a week but couldn’t buy his baby’s pampers’. Isn’t life funny? That was in the case of Olajumoke Orisaguna and Teebillz.

There were two emotional breakdowns that got the most press in 2016. While one of the characters granted a journalist access and spilt out all her story for FREE in the press including some information that should probably have been kept secret considering days of reconciliation. The other character was smart enough to make lemonade from her situation. She got her story published and made money from her setbacks. Their actions may divide your opinions but their responsibilities and repercussions rest solely on their shoulders. So, don’t bother stressing yourself arguing over this with anyone. This was in the case of Tiwa Savage and Toke Makinwa.

One of the most interesting issues that got everyone scratching their heads and asking ‘what da heck is going on?’ happened during the most talked about wedding in 2016. On one hand, the bride and the groom couldn’t wait to perform their wedding rituals and officially become Mr. and Mrs. On the other hand, one of my most favourite OAPs (I personally rate her as one of the most interesting in terms of presentation and topics she comes up with on her show) allowed the Olumofin brothers get under her skin. This brouhaha was a total mess. Outside the Olamide and Don Jazzy drama at the Headies, there are still so many others to talk about but I will leave it to you. The question is what should we learn from this?
