RIHANNA- MISS CONSISTENT
If Rihanna was a footballer, odds are she would be either Messi or Ronaldo. Why? Because of her sheer consistency in delivering hit singles, albums and news for magazine year upon year.
Since her entry into music after her demo tape was picked up by Jay Z who was the newly appointed president and Chief executive officer of Def Jam Recordings, there has been no looking back for the Barbados beauty who has gone on to be one of the household names in today’s music and made shit load of cash for her mentor Jay Z.
Today, Rihanna has sold over 150 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time. She has songs that rank among the world’s best-selling singles of all time, such as Umbrella, Take a Bow, Disturbia, Only Girl (In the World), “and S&M , We Found Love , Diamonds and Stay. She has achieved thirteen number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the youngest and fastest solo artist to accomplish this record. Billboard named her the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade and the top Hot 100 artist of the 2010s decade. And she is only 27!
With 7 albums in and the highly anticipated R8 on its way, there is plenty to always keep Rihanna in the news. From her highly publicized beat down with former boyfriend Chris Brown, to her dalliance with Drake, her racy, nude images and her Social media clap backs to journos or critics that dare put their noses in her business. You just get the feeling that Rihanna is that name that will forever remain on our lips. After all we have seen her grow from the baby face in Pon De Replay to the self-aware, daring woman we have before our very eyes today.
A century from now, it is not a stretch to imagine historians wistfully looking back and mentioning ‘There was a Rihanna’ or label this period we live in as ‘The Rihanna Era”
