SHEDRACK SALAMI’S Artistic Narratives Speaks Volumes

My major aim for venturing into body art is not for the fun of it nor for fashion, I actually want to heal the world via body Art

Words by Sesan Adeniji

It took me less than ten minutes going through some of his works on Instagram to come to the conclusion that I will do a story on him. Each of his painting resonates with me. The stories affiliated with most of his artistic masterstrokes are reflections of the realities in today’s society. Shedrack Ojonugwa Salami known as Xtrovarts for his creative works is one inspiring new generation creative artists.

“I am a final year student of Kogi state university, studying Sociology. Based in Ibadan. A Versatile self-taught creative Artist with a unique taste of creativity in whatsoever I do. Aside drawing and painting, I am also a Craftsman. I have expertise in artwork/portrait drawing (majorly realistic charcoal drawings), Painting (Abstract and Still Life), Digital painting, I make customized necklaces of face, logo and name. And I have vast experience in all forms of graphics designing.

I manage the brand Xtrovarts. A entity aimed at bringing out the best in creativity to the world at large.  I create and present creative conceptual designs and presentations directly to my clients in timely and friendly fashion. I believe in creating outstanding designs and in building a healthy, satisfying and long lasting business relationship with my customers.

Me being a versatile artist, I intend making body painting mainstream. For this reason I decided to set up a body art brand, which I call “Surrealism of Xtrovarts“; what I do here basically is body paintings. As a surrealism artist, I paint unnerving, illogical scenes with photographic precision, create imagination doodles from everyday objects, and develop my painting techniques that allowed the unconscious to express itself.

In this case, I use the human body as my own canvas that I paint on. Body arts can be used for photo-shoots, carnivals, music video shoot, movies and much more. Models have been noticed to be the smartest in this case since they need it to upgrade their portfolios, Fashion designers use it
for their runway models to glow the stage and add colours to their fashion show.

My major aim for venturing into body art is not for the fun of it nor for fashion, I actually want to heal the world via body Art. As a social activist, I want to speak with my paint and canvas, addressing various issues faced by our world today via body art would really go a long way,
people would really want to see the messages I have on a human skin.

It’s just all about visualising my ideas by transmitting them directly unto the human body in this context the body becomes my canvas. I see my muses as a reflection of my messages, I feed off their vibe and connect with every possibilities, every single piece put together is in its own uniqueness. That’s why I chose to use the human body to communicate and express thoughts and ideas that have concrete and deeper interpretations.
