Teni’s Magical ‘Uyo Meyo’ Is Therapeutic
Out there, the one of the nagging questions begging for an answer is “How good is Teni’s ‘Uyo Meyo’ ranked among some of the ‘Best Recording’ in this country? Whatever your answers are no matter which sides of the aisle you belong, the fact remains that this single resonates with everyone.
Words by Peace Ogechi Nwanka
The melody, tempo and texture of her voice feels terrestrial…song so therapeutic, it heals the soul from all shades of despondency – it brings in reassurances. The song ‘Uyo Meyo’ is described with several good words by so many people but to me, it’s just magic.
I am a fan of soul and R&B music, the likes of Whitney Houston, Boy II Men, Phil Collins and many others. Songs like ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney are my love weakness until I fell in love with another. The thought of a Nigerian pop music holding me spellbound would only have been a fairy-tale until Teni’s Uyo Meyo got me engulfed – despite the language used in it, it manages to speak directly to me.
It’s crazy how she has managed to touch my soul with her songs, and am sure it’s not just me, the energy she puts in it, the happiness in her eyes when she sings – her music brings life, her voice, wow. It’s a song of hope. It’s reminiscent of the good old days when music is the next thing filling after food. Teni Apata’s music is just so good; I’m lost for words to describe it.
She’s a talented being who’s music comes with a soothing relief; I’m so sorry if i come out as obsessed with music but ‘Uyo Meyo’, has kept me going these past few days. It’s beautiful how a sound could make one #wanna listen all over again. There’s a message in every word in the lyrics. She’s creating an epic legacy and we can’t wait to see her walk up the stage to give her Grammy’s speech. Yep, I said that; you can take that to the bank.

The song is simply spiritual…. It came from the divine realm to encourage the discouraged and push you to achieve what you think you cant achieve… When o listen to the song its gives me goosebumps. I remember asking a DJ to play the song while hanging out with friends at a lounge but he didn’t have it, it was new then, had to download and transfer to his laptop via Bluetooth… As soon as jam that track everybody stood up and rocked it as though it was church service… Lol
The is epic, spiritual!!!
