Tyler Perry Final Madea Franchise
If you a fan of Tyler Perry’s Madea, sorry, you will only have one more film about that character. Tyler Perry is bringing his famed Madea franchise to a close.
Perry made the announcement Monday (Oct. 29) during a Sirius XM interview stating that the fiery, gun-toting grandmother would say goodbye to audiences.
“I just don’t want to be her age [still] playing her,” 49-year-old Perry said.
Madea was 68-year-old when she made her theatrical debut 20 years ago in the stage play I Can Do Bad All Myself. Immediatley loved for her wisdom dripped in life experiences and take no-mess attitude, Madea helped take Perry from the theater circuit to Hollywood.
According to reports, Madea has appeared in dozens of films grossing more than $500 million internationally. Perry said Madea’s final bow is titled Tyler Perry’s A Media Family Funeral.
Perry revealed production wrapped on the film two years ago. Vanity Fair reports the plot centers around a family reunion in Georgia’s backwoods with an unexpected death. Perry, however, doesn’t specify if Madea herself has died.
The final film also coincides with Perry’s Lionsgate deal coming to a close. The director signed a deal with Viacom to produce content across film, television and short-video platform.
