Like beauty, artists have various ways of expression and everyone has their own unique interpretation to their art pieces . Don Okuchukwu Eseagwu is one of the new generation artists gaining traction. With each drawings and illustrations, this lad is like the cat that got the cream. He’s married to his craft.
“My name is Don Okes, popularly known as Moonlight art. I am from Delta state, Ndokwa East LGA, but based in Benin City. I am a surrealistic conceptual artist, who majors basically on pastels and charcoal drawings. I started drawing commercially in 2012 and since then I have never paused or stopped. Out of 365 days in a year, I can say I draw up to 350 days; so literally, I draw daily. I derive my inspiration from beauty and nature.
Art has been my passion despite the fact I didn’t study it in school.
I am an agriculture graduate from University of Benin. It wasn’t easy combining school with art. I have had challenges but thank God we survived. I have participated in several exhibitions in Nigeria such as Beats and Strings, Resurgence Of Expression and Limcaf. I have also commissioned works for top celebrities like Banky W, 2face Idibia, Falz, Simi, Ice Prince, Illbliss, Davido, Duke of spades, Wole Soyinka, Erigga, Burna Boy, Kizz Daniel, Patoranking and Reekado Banks.
My artistic style is meant to impose demand for questions of identity. I use green leaf and moon on most of my works as you can see. Green represents freshness, growth and nature while the moon represents my dream to fly outta space someday. My medium helps to give me this freedom to express myself in the most miniature areas. My art tends to give a deeper relationship between nature and man.
In the next coming months, I will love to attain stardom through my art, be globally and internationally known. Will also love to work with bigger brands and execute projects for them. I want to leave my footprint for others to follow and make the art industry a place to look into. I’m also into house painting, room design, and interior decorations. Also, I’m a lover of good music. In my spare time, I sing. I have recorded few songs like “Ife Dun”, “Count On Me“, “Hope and Hustle“. Alongside my art career, I intend pushing my love for music further” – Don Eseagwu
