Bybisasa ‘The Radio Idol’ On City 105.1FM Lagos

There’s a long list of On-Air-Personalities justifiably jostling for the attention of the Nigerian radio listening audience. But only a few of these OAPs have unparalleled wittiness to entertain flawlessly and read the news seamlessly as Ibukun Adeoye. A lawyer-cum-OAP, her social commentary skills, and her music industry analyses are impeccable. Although she’s in the circle of the few new faces in the industry, nevertheless, she possesses heaps of talent to captivate millions. Listening to her daily show from 5 am – 11 am is fun filling. It’s fair to say that, Bybisasa is The Radio Idol on City 105.1FM Lagos.

Her journey into the broadcasting industry is quite an amusing one. According to her; “When I finished my high school at Adesoye College, I could not get into the university immediately because I was awaiting my results. During those times, I would listen to the radio and be amazed at how the presenters could hold my attention and keep me entertained and enlightened for hours unending. I would be so fascinated by how knowledgeable the radio personalities were and said to myself, ‘I CAN DO THIS’. I had earlier put in to study Law but was skeptical because of my newfound love for radio and knowing fully well that communication was my best bet.

I proceeded to study Law. Luckily for my University of Ilorin had a radio station. I got in touch with Mr. Leo (Segun Alabi), who facilitated my internship at the radio station. It was overwhelming combining radio and Law. There were several times it clashed with classes. But like the saying, a girl gat to do what a girl gat to do – I never gave up. My mum was the only one that knew I was juggling studies with interning on the radio. I once teased my dad by painting a scenario of working on the radio. The reaction I got informed my decision to keep my radio gig under wraps. Well, I later became a presenter, producer, and newscaster.” – She narrated.

Subsequently, she later got employed as one of the pioneering staff of Raypower Ilorin. After which, she proceeded to Law School and left the radio. During her mandatory service year at the ministry of justice in Benue state, she found her way to radio Benue. That was where she served and made a mark. After that, she practices Law for three years. During that period, she kept finding ways to switch to radio. As God will have it, she auditioned and got a job with City 105.1FM. She was previously hosting the Rundown Show from 2 pm – 5 pm. Now she commands huge attention for hosting the station’s flagship breakfast show. Bybisasa is the real deal.
