Esbee The Songwriter Is Staking A Claim As One Of The Best
The artist known as Esbee The Songwriter is one of the only entertainers in the Nigerian music industry that goes by the name that defines his craft. He has the songwriting alter ego of an R&B artist, the stage presence of a rapper, and the slickness of a poet. His creative headspace is between J Cole and Drake’s ideation. Listening to the song “Destiny” off his EP called “The New Moon”, the inventiveness that came with the chorus and the rap lines are exceptional. Unarguably, Esbee The Songwriter is staking a claim as one of the best.
He goes by the government name Okhiria Daabo Ayodele. He hails from Owan West in Edo state, and he’s a graduate of the Theatre Arts department from the University Of Benin. “I started making music with my school friends in 2011, just as we were graduating from St Finbarrs College. It was a four-member band. In between 2011-2013, we released songs like ‘Drop It Low,’ ‘Bad Guy Anthem’, and ‘Make A Move’. We all got admission into different universities across the country, so we disbanded. In 2013, I started my solo career with the stage name #Esbee.” He stated.
While in UNIBEN, he ventured into producing music. He worked on songs like “Fela Rap” (Nex’ Page, 2013) and “Beautiful” (Chinedu, 2014). He also released his songs like “Found You” and “Jedi Love”. Both gained traction across the campus. In 2017, “Heartache”, his debut EP, was published. He organized his first headline concert of the same name in December of the same year at Imperial Bizzo, Benin City. In 2018, he ventured into songwriting as a business. Waye was his first client. He emerged first runner-up at the 2018 Stardom Nigeria talent hunt competition.
In 2019, he also emerged as one of the three winners of the talent hunt show organized by 2Baba’s 20th-anniversary committee. “I co-wrote the song “Falling For Me” with 2Baba and Efe Omorogbe. As a respected songwriter, alongside Ria Sean, 86, and Kenny Vibes, he co-wrote the soundtrack of Afrinolly’s Television series “Okiripoto”.” At the tail end of 2021, he released his sophomore 5-track EP titled “The New Moon”. This hip-hop/R&B project that is well-voiced, and produced, gives credence to Esbee’s inventiveness.

If not mistaken i was the first to start calling Esbee ‘Sensei’. Met Esbee at Ekehuan campus University of Benin were he inspired a lot of young talented ones, and everybody loves Esbee cuz the dude is fucking dope has a lot of creativity to show off.
