May Shua Is Staking A Claim As Hip-hop Dancehall Queen
May Shua is arguably one of the only known artists at the moment staking a claim as Nigerian hip-hop dancehall Queen. She’s not asserting herself with just mere words, but her song “Parachute” off her eight-track debut body of work “MAYkers” – The EP is gaining traction and doing the bidding. Right now, May Shua may not be your regular household name but don’t count her out in the coming weeks. She takes no prisoners in her quest to become one of the best female artists.
Christened Maryam Winnie-Fred Shuaibu, May alias Naija Best Rapping Shawteey, is a native of Edo State. The singer, songwriter, and youth chancellor started her music career in 2010.
In 2012, she had a launch at the Get Arena, with the creme-de-la-creme of the music and comedy industry in attendance. She has collaborated with artists like Oritse Femi, Koker, Dee Tunes, and Devolee. According to her, “I have my heart set on leaving a universal footprint of greatness”.
After recording several songs as singles, in November 2020, I released my debut EP called “MAYkers” – This EP contains some exhilarating music genres and is available on all music streaming platforms. “Parachute”, which is the song I am promoting now, is the fourth track off the EP.
It’s a smooth blend of dancehall flows garnished with hip-hop bars in the Edo dialect (Etsako). It also has a music video currently enjoying airplay. In the coming months, I will have more videos released. I may also have a brand new single”.
