Micah Chibike Aruocha Of Lagos Traffic Radio96.1FM Is Head Above Shoulders
If we objectively write out names of the most influential radio personalities to the average grassroots Lagosians daily, Micah Chibike Aruocha popularly known as ‘MC ICE’ of Lagos Traffic Radio96.1FM will be amongst the top on the list. If we put aside the hype that some of his colleagues are enjoying (no pun intended), MC ICE will trump most of them. He’s head above shoulders; a thoroughbred broadcaster, voice-over artist, and event MC of a high reputation. MC ICE is knowledgeable about the music industry and politics. Over the years, he has interviewed the crème-de-la-crème entertainers and politicians.
A native of Abia state, MC ICE studied Mass Communication at Olabisi Onobanjo University, Ogun State. He’s also a Criminology graduate from the National Open University. According to him; “Broadcasting for me wasn’t by accident. I have been in love with the profession for a while. Eighteen years ago, I had the opportunity to intern by a stroke of luck with Eko 89.7FM. The station had always been my dream station. I was there for six weeks. Thereafter, I worked with the station for thirteen years. I anchored shows like “Una Dey So“, “Joli-Joli Avenue“, and “ICE NA WAH“!”
In 2012, despite still working at Eko FM, he became one of the pioneering hosts on Lagos Traffic Radio, their sister station. In 2019, he finally left his gig at Eko FM to concentrate on his daily Lunch Time Waka show 12.15 pm – 2 pm (Monday – Friday) on Lagos Traffic Radio. Within those later years, he was also a freelance presenter on Rainbow 94.1FM Sunday show, The Gospel Pidgin Groove Show. As a columnist, he wrote for HINT Magazine, and as a TV presenter, he anchored a show for Rave TV (D Weekly Mata) and LTV 8 (Tori Tori – an early morning pidgin newspaper review).
