Mimi Wood Is Gearing Up To Unleash Her Tuneful Afrobeats Songs
Mimi Wood is one of the new generation artists currently investing so much time locked up in the studio cooking up music that will take the industry by storm in the coming months. In 2020, she achieved recognition as one of the hottest R&B artists in Africa with the release of ‘Better.’ Her collaborative 2021 single ‘Love Of My Life’ produced by Masterkraft featuring Drizilik got everyone raving for her as one of the Afrobeats artists to look out for in 2022. Now she is gearing up to unleash her tuneful songs.
Mimi Wood is an indigene of Sierra-Leon of Jamaican descendant. Christened Ashade Cole, she’s so proud of her Nigerian first name. According to her, “I have Nigerian and Ghanaian ancestry. I have been singing and writing since I was a child. Growing up, I was in a group with my best friend. Our cousins are professional musicians and producers. They played for the late Amy Winehouse and others. They nurtured our interest and taught us as much as they could.
I built a home studio during COVID lock-down in the UK and started writing and teaching myself to engineer for the first time in years. For my birthday, I wrote and recorded a song titled “Better” and asked my friends to record themselves at home to make a video, which I loved. It is so sentimental to me. The song ‘Love Of My Life’ is the most recent material I have. It featured one of my favorite Sierra Leonean artists, Drizilik. I am also on Drizilik’s soon-to-be-released album. My debut EP is also in the works. I can’t wait to share my music with the world.
