Sean Dampte Spreads Afrobeats From Lagos, London And Beyond

Sean Dampte, christened Oluwaseun Oluyole, is one of the musicians pushing the boundaries to raise the flag of Afrobeats from Lagos, London, and beyond. Intentional with his sound, strategic with his brand perception, and consistent with his push, Sean’s 11-track album tagged “Lagos Friday, London Monday” is an eclectic body of work. One doesn’t need rocket science to know that he has crafted a unique fusion of sound. He knows his onions, and as he sets his eyes on selling out records, he takes no prisoners.

Credited as one of the pioneers of the Afro-fusion rhythm, he was previously known by the name Dampte. Then he released fans’ favorite tracks like “Wine Your Tinkolo” featuring YQ (2011). He also appeared on T-Pain’s Nappy Boy Record signee Tay Dizm’s single “Are You Ready”.

In 2017, he rebranded to Sean Dampte. That same year, he released the hit record called “Alignment” featuring Rayce. With a debut EP called “The Awoodah Begins”(2018), the sophomore “The Awoodah Rising – Man Like Sean Dampte (2020), and his third installment “Awoodah – Baba Won”, his popularity soared to greater heights. But he is not a man to rest on his laurels.

Sean’s music videos have had good rotation on TraceTV, MTV UK, MTV Base, and BET. He also had good reviews performing at shows alongside the top dogs like D’banj, Banky W, and 2Baba. In 2010, he performed alongside Wizkid during the Tom Tom Festival at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere. Also, in 2019, he was on the same stage where Davido performed. In 2021, he performed alongside Buju and Wande Coal.

Sean had a dinner listening party for his new EP on May 22, 2022, in Lagos. On June 24, he will do the same in London. This lad means business. According to the album press release, Sean Dampte heaps praise on his in-house producer Jay Ocean for the great work on the album. Also, he described the album as a twin installation – the essence of which will be appreciated by all fans. My audience should continue to expect excellent music from me. It is my first-ever album, and my mantra remains to release timeless music…”Ariwo ko ni music.”
