Odii Chukwuemaka – Coal City’s Thoroughbred Music Broadcaster
Odii Chukwuemeka Edwin-alias BlueMagic is a music-head respected by a legion of industry fans across the eastern city of Enugu State, Nigeria. A beat maker-cum-radio/TV presenter and a performing artist, Blue-magic knows his way around the music industry like lines in the palm of his hands. As the host of Locomotion (weekdays 12noon-1 pm) on Sunrise 96.1FM and the presenter of ETV’s 042 Express (Mondays to Saturdays 2 pm -3 pm), he’s a thoroughbred music broadcaster and analyst.
A native of Okposi Ohaozara LGA Of Ebonyi State, he studied Industrial Chemistry at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa. According to him, “My journey as a radio and TV broadcaster started in 2011. At that time, I was just a music producer. But before that period, I had been one of the biggest consumers of radio and TV content. I was so much into it that I love discovering new radio stations – local and international. As part of my career chasing dreams, I wanted to become a broadcaster.
In 2009, I auditioned for the now-defunct Rhythm FM Akwa’s radio host search. I was not selected. In 2010, I applied at Raypower FM Enugu but wasn’t employed. At that point, I decided to create my radio show called ‘Radio 101’ (since I already had experience working with sound and had been exposed to radio content for almost ten years). By 2011, the show started airing on Rhythm FM. That was my entrance into broadcasting. Being witty, informative, and entertaining has won me some die-hard audience.
Aside from broadcasting, I also paid attention to my music career. In 2018 I released a song called ‘Oloye’. It was euphony for my audience hustling in the street. The visuals to the song debuted in 2019. In 2019, December 6, I released my first 6-track EP called ‘2014’. My sophomore EP, called 2014 Initial, was released in 2020. Currently, I am working on the video for the song titled ‘Benz’ featuring Kolaboy. It’s off the debut EP. Broadcasting and being a performing artist have been fulfilling for me”.
